Everybody talks about doing time. Very few talk about doing time at MCC New York. MCC wasn’t a regular jail. It was the holding ground—pre-trial—where pressure was highest and loyalty was tested first. This is where walls really started closing in, where you watched people crack, turn, and disappear one by one. Friends got fewer. Trust got thinner. Silence became survival. This was the late 1980s and early 1990s. The end of an era. Inside MCC, you crossed paths with men whose names would later become legends, books, documentaries, and movies—stories that inspired films like Goodfellas and American Gangster. But before Hollywood, before the headlines, these were real men facing real consequences, sitting behind the same walls. I met people I would never meet again in any other place or time. Men known for power, loyalty, and fear. Some stood tall. Others folded. MCC showed you who was who—fast. This is also where the government applied pressure in ways few understand. Diesel therapy—constant transport on buses, prison to prison, for 90 days, 100 days, sometimes six months. No rest. No stability. Just movement meant to break you down emotionally until cooperation became the only option left. It wasn’t written about. It wasn’t talked about. But everyone there knew what it was for. From New York to Puerto Rico, from street soldiers to political freedom fighters, MCC held people from every world—and it stripped everyone the same. The codes were clear. The rules were unspoken. And once that time passed, it could never be relived or reversed. It was a one-time-in-a-lifetime experience, for better or worse. I still live by certain codes today. Because some things you don’t speak on. Some things you carry quietly. What I can say is this: not everyone survives that pressure. Only the strong do—and for some, that strength comes through God’s calling and change. I was once on America’s Most Wanted. In 1988, hunted by dozens of agents across cities and countries, my face broadcast on national television. That life was real. The consequences were real. And MCC New York was the turning point. This story isn’t told to glorify anything. It’s told so the next generation understands where the wrong choices lead. If this helps even one kid avoid ending up behind those walls, then telling it matters. May God bless you all. And may no one else ever have to learn these lessons the hard way.
